02.03.2009 : Kyrgyzstan: The opposition to run protest demonstrations throughout the country in March
In the interview to Ferghana.ru, dated February 24, the head of oppositional United National Movement (UNM) of Kyrgyzstan, Azimbek Beknazarov, announced that protest demonstration against the policy of the current regime will be launched throughout the regions of the country at the same time in March, 2009.
The exact date of the republican protest campaign, organized by Kyrgyz opposition, will be announced on March 1 during the UNM in Bishkek. Today, the process of preparation to mass protest actions is in progress in the regions, where ENM leader traditionally have popular support or where they are from originally.
The mass action, scheduled to March of this year, will traditionally demand the following: ahead-of-schedule resignation of the President Kurmanbek Bakiev, the establishment of the coalition government as well as the organization of the constitutional reform.
The government has made no response yet.
It is worth saying that the United National Movement was established in December of the last year. The new opposition structure attracted the main opponents of the current regime, such organizations as “For Fairness”, “Public Parliament”, “United Kyrgyzstan”, “National revolution movement for the resignation of President Kurmanbek Bakiev” and such political parties as “Ata-Meken”, “Ak-Shumkar”, “Green Party”, “Asaba”, “Zhany Kyrgyzstan”, “Uluu Birimdik”, .
