Employees of the oblast NSS are making psychological pressures on journalists. 15.02.05

Jalal abad oblast department of the national security services is gathering information about journalists. Guljan Asanova, correspondent of the
oblast newspaper “Akyikat” informed about this. According to her words, one employee of the department of the NSS called the office of the edition requesting to give the resumes of all journalists. “We were concerned these illegal actions, which have indirect goal of making psychological pressure on us”, said G. Oblast authorities try to introduce a regime for broadcasting the advertising campaigns of the candidates to the deputies. 15.02.05

Administration of the Jalalabad oblast will introduce a regime for elections campaigns of the independent candidate to the deputy of parliament. Journalists of an independent TV “Eho Manasa” informed about this. According to their words, representatives of government institutions
several times called them requiring to stop showing the advertising of the candidate to the deputy of JK KR Bektur Asanov – leader of the “Erk” party, member of the People’s movement of Kyrgyzstan. They made the following reason that the content of the advertisement is negatively influences the mood of voters. “We consider these requests of authorities as illegal, since the content of the advertisement of B. Asanov does not have illegal and amoral facts”, said the TV journalists. The advertisement of candidate B. Asanov contains the Aksy events, where six people got killed as a result of the shootings during the peaceful demonstrations. Kyrgyzstan

Candidate to the deputy is will to appeal against the oblast TV 15.02.05

Bektur Asanov, candidate to the deputy of the JK KR from Kyzyl Tuu lection district # 28 (Suzak region, Jalalabad oblast) declared to appeal to the
court against the Jalalabad TV and Radio Company (JTRK). According to B. Asanov, on February 2, 2005 representatives of his elections office signed a contract with TV and Radio Company on showing the advertisement. They paid for 45 minutes of broadcasting. However, under the pressure of oblast administration the TV and Radio Company cancelled the contract. Administration of the Company justified their cancellation saying that the content of the advertisement has negative sides in relation to the events occurred in our country. The tragic events of Aksy region of March, 2002 were shown in the advertisement, where weapons were used during against the demonstrates, who protested against the decision of the Kyrgyz government on transferring 90 hectares of land to China in Uzengikush.

The press secretary of the president of the KR accuses the independent mass media of unjustified critique of the president 14.02.05

”Independent mass media are infringing the principles during the pre election campaigns”, said the press secretary of the president of KR Abdil
Segizbaev. He mentioned the newspaper “MSN”, stating that it publishes criticisms of the president and his family. “I address the citizens of Kyrgyzstan to have their own view on events occurring and not to believe the provocations of such mass media”, said the press secretary.

Minister of foreign affairs hypocritically considers that there is a freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan 14.02.05

“Democracy is present in Kyrgyzstan right from the beginning of independence. I can say with full responsibility that freedom of press, freedom of expression are actively practiced in our country”, said the ministry of foreign affairs of the KR Askar Aitmatov during the official visit to Moscow. According to the minister, there are no barriers in the country to the functioning of the oppositional press, which can freely publish any critical materials.
